“Is the order for table number ten ready?”
I turned the blaze of the cooking flame down and grasped the pan in my left hand. With my right hand, I expertly arranged the lines of spaghetti on the plate. Reuben walked up to me and winked.
“You know, she’s looking quite fine in her black dress today.”
I peeked outside through the kitchen door window. There she was again, sitting in perfect poise, making my heart beat harder. Reuben whispered.
“Tell her, man!”
I put the final touch on the dish with the red sauce.
“A red heart, sweet!”

Great flash fiction piece. I like the gentle tease on the imagination. It kept me wanting more, which is an attribute of a good flash fiction piece.
I look forward to reading more of your work. Stop over at my blog sometime, I would love to hear what you think of my work. Happy Blogging!

Nice Nid, touching way to attract attention…if she has eyes to see as well as eat! Questions as always in flash fiction…did she pick up the bait and turn her eyes chefwards?

I can only hope she did! 😀
And she came back to sample more of the chef..and his food! 😉

Ha, ha. So many unspoken options in flash fiction! I did ponder if she saw the heart or was engrossed in talking and swiped food through it before seeing it. Then there’s the glance with a smile from him not picked up on. Food so good she goes back for that or seeing the heart, glancing up and a held gaze lasting just the right amount of time with a tip and phone number.
Trouble is do us writers have time to chase every piece of fiction 😱
