Flash Fiction: Ferris Wheel

I have been coming here since I was a kid.

This amusement park is my second home. I know everything about it. How long each ride runs, the speeds, in how many minutes does the ferris wheel reach the top, everything. In fact, the wheel was my first ride here, when my parents had brought me many many years ago. The wheel takes a slight pause at precisely 9 pm, when the power line switched. It is the best time to be in the top pod. Which is where I am. One last sight of the city.

Before the final plunge…

  1. A tragic story. Perhaps the saddest thing is the way his childhood memories of the Ferris wheel represent such a high point of his life that he chooses to take his own life there. How limited his experience of happiness must have been.

      1. No, predictable stories are horrible. I didn’t mean to imply such. I just know with The Dark Netizen shit’s gonna get dark. There is no happy day on the Ferris Wheel, and I would be disappointed if there were.

  2. Too bad he is taking a plunge. The way he has planned everything, he could have found a good opportunity to work anywhere. Strange are the ways life functions.

  3. Ouch! This did not strike me as pre-suicidal so that last line was quite a surprise! I got more of an obsessive vibe from this, like you might possibly see in high functioning autism. Hope the plunge is on a bungee cord, or just a flowery way of saying the final half-spin of the wheel.
