Flash Fiction: Flying Gate

I looked up at the director
“Boss, this is the fifth time I’ve set up the gate and fence.”
The director looked at me callously.
“The shot wasn’t right. So, you do your job and I will do mine, to get the perfect take. Okay?”
He turned around before I could reply. The gate and fence were ready to be destroyed all over again. The director shouted at the stunt driver.
“Get in the van and do it right this time.”
I knew exactly where the stunt driver was hoping the soon-to-be-flying gate would land.

I agreed with his sentiments.

Microfiction: Wires

This is tricky.

There are way too many wires here. Which one do I cut to defuse the bomb? Well, the manual says I should cut the red one. But, there are two red wires here. The contingency calls for cutting the green wire. There isn’t one! Think..Think. Got it! Green is a mixture of blue and yellow. I should cut those wires together. One…Two…Three…

“Trainee, if that was a real life situation, we would all have been blown to smithereens. You fail this test!”

Microfiction: Walking By

There she is, simply walking by.

I am sure she knows of our existence, but enjoys ignoring us completely. She knows we enjoy watching her as she struts along the sidewalk. The prized poodle that she is, with her flawless hair, and shiny coat, us street hounds can only marvel at her. I wonder why the humans call it a wolf whistle,

When the dogs do it so much better…

Flash Fiction: Misty Road

Visibility was almost zero.

That was all thanks to the misty road. It lived up to its name. It was my bright idea to come for a joy ride here. The intially clear road had become mist laden within minutes.

I could see nothing around me. I was hesitant to go any further and heading back was not an option on this mountain road. I decided to rely on the tail lights of the car in front of me. I could only be astonished at the confidence and skills of the person driving that car.

In some time, my engine began sputtering and my car came to a halt. Cursing my car, I slapped my steering wheel. To my surprise, the mist began clearing as fast as it had appeared. I gasped in shock as I realized my car stood right at the edge of a cliff. As I calmed myself down and reversed, I had only one question in mind.

Where had the other car gone?

Flash Fiction: My Fort

It is almost time.

There was an age when everything happened according to the whims of the king. Now, the Government calls the shots. It declared that every year on this date, the gates of my fort would open up for the sake of cultural tourism. I had no say in the matter, even though it is my fort. My heart splinters a little every time I see commoners roaming inside my home. If the laws of old still held, I would have seen to it that every last one of them was flogged.

Well, time to welcome them in…
