Flash Fiction: Crossover

You end up paying the price for your behaviour.

Ask me. I know only too well. All my life, I lived like a selfish savage. I never cared for any other person. I took what I wanted and lived my life to the fullest. Then it all ended. I paid the price for my exploits and I was sent to Hell. Then the war broke out. The forces of Heaven and Hell joined forces against a common foe. And we won. Strangely, I learnt the values of life in my afterlife, during a war. And yet again, I paid the price for my exploits. However, it was more of a reward this time.

I was allowed to crossover into heaven…

Flash Fiction: Embrace

Do you remember me?

We used to come here in our youth. You, the merchant Prince, and I a mere farmer girl. Do you remember how you embraced me here, hidden from the eyes of the world?

I remember. I remember how you brought me here after your marriage to some Southern Princess was decided. You pinned me against this tree and impaled me there with your sword.

I remember how the woods embraced me after that. I became a part of them, a vengeful forest spirit. Now you come back here after so many years. Let me complete my vengeance.

Let me embrace you…

Flash Fiction: The Shadow Show

“Mommy, what is happening here?”

I looked at my child looking confused.

“This is a shadow show, my darling. It’s just like the movies we watch, but this is done right in front of us, in real.”

“So there are heroes and heroines here also? But I can’t tell which ones are boys and which ones are girls.”

My child was too young to understand this. This show was made so that the artists and the story is highlighted. It aimed to show genders are inconsequential. My child was too young to understand. I smiled.

“That’s what’s special here.”

Flash Fiction: My Scar

It is rightly said that behind every scar there is a story of survival.

My story took place many years ago, during the invasion of the dark king.

Led by our Prince, we were fighting for our survival in a battle that defined ages.

Our Prince’s eminence in warfare was unquestionable on the battlefield, as he skewered numerous dark minions in front of my eyes.

In the heat of battle I saw one minion slip behind the Prince, ready to end his life, when I jumped in between.

My sacrifice won my kingdom’s freedom and won me this scar…

Flash Fiction: Purpose

The scarecrow approached the little girl.

“I noticed you. That proves you are unusual,” said the Scarecrow; “and I am convinced that the only people worthy of consideration in this world are the unusual ones. For the common folks are like the leaves of a tree, and live and die unnoticed.”

The little girl blinked unknowingly, her leg was still too injured for her to move. The scarecrow stood next to her, looking down at her. It was smiling.

“You will serve a purpose in life….”

She smiled back as its smile widened.

“Yes..The purpose of filling my stomach….”

Flash Fiction: Belong

I was cast out into the shadows by society, because of I never agreed with its norms.

It refused to accept me into its ranks, and minced no words in letting me know why.

Sometimes I looked different, talked different, ate different, had no money, had a different sexual difference, thought different, just different.

But every time, the simple reason was that I did not fit in the society’s mold and I was kicked to the curb for that reason.

Left all alone, one day suddenly, society decided to walk up to me, offered its help in standing back up.

I spat on the hand of society, for if society is as such, I would rather not belong to it…

Flash Fiction: Last Stand

The moon is still dark, it’s going to be a tough battle. It might just be our last stand.

My men are not in their best state. I don’t blame them, we have been fighting battles for the last week, without respite, losing them all. We have seen our brothers decimated right before our eyes by the horrors that approach us now. The castle behind us is our last stronghold, and this bridge is our last line of defence. I see my men taking cover behind sandbags.

The foul beasts have advanced far enough. Fight Men, to our last breath…
