Flash Fiction: Valentine Cupcakes

I looked up at the guard banging his baton on the gate of my jail cell.
The glee in his eyes betrayed his thoughts. He had come to scoff at his favorite toy.
“Look what came for you.”
He showed me a pretty box and opened it to reveal cupcakes. I walked towards the door.
“Your girlfriend has sent you a Valentine’s Day gift.”
I looked longingly at the cupcake. Before I could speak, the guard had stuffed his mouth with a cupcake.
Within seconds the pig was out cold.

Phase one of escape plan: Complete…

Flash Fiction: Climb

I knew it was not going to be easy.

The top floor, and a window of only fifteen minutes to get through the open window. Time to see if all my practice at the rock climbing wall bore any fruit.

Okay, slow and steady does it. I won’t look down and only focus on the goal – the window. That’s easier said than done. Here come the shivers. Ignore them, ignore them.
Right, made it to the window. It is open, as I was promised.

I hope she likes her valentine’s gift and can keep it away from her disapproving father…

“Been stalking her?”

Yep. I even know where she lives.

“You are being crazy. That’s illegal.”

If that is what it takes.

“Okay idiot, what’s next, a love letter written in blood?”

Yep. Yours…

The two boys stared wide eyed at the holstered silver gun.

It was huge. Even though they had no experience with guns other than video games, this weapon looked like no ordinary person could wield it. Not that Perseus looked like an ordinary person, either. Gary turned towards Billy.

“What is an Acheri?”

“Well, its a monster that preys on those who show fear. That’s why it tries to strike terror into its victims’ hearts, before attacking and capturing them.”

Perseus suddenly got up.

“The fog is thickening. A sure sign that the Acheri is there. Time to hunt.”

This is the last one.

No lanterns left now. I watch now, as the luminescence floats in the dark sky. My small radiant orb will rise, until its final light fades. As my final hope begins fading. It depends on this last lantern.
